School Uniform – Oakwood Primary Academy

Looking Smart, Feeling Proud and Belonging Together!

At Oakwood Primary Academy, we take pride in our school uniform and the sense of belonging it creates within our school community.

Our uniform helps children feel part of the Oakwood family, promotes equality and encourages everyone to take pride in their appearance and their school.

We aim to ensure that our uniform is smart, practical, comfortable and affordable for all families. We also recognise the importance of individuality and inclusion, ensuring that every child feels happy and confident at school.

We kindly ask parents and carers to support our uniform expectations so that all children arrive at school ready to learn, play and enjoy their day.

Our PE Kit

Ready to Move, Play and Get Active!

Physical Education is an important part of school life at Oakwood, helping children develop confidence, teamwork, coordination and a love of being active.

To ensure children can participate safely and comfortably, all pupils are expected to have the correct PE kit.

Oakwood's PE kit consists of:

  • Yellow T-shirt.

  • Navy blue shorts.

  • Suitable trainers.

During colder weather, children may also wear a plain sweatshirt and black jogging bottoms.

Please ensure that all PE clothing is clearly labelled with your child's name.

PE Safety

For health and safety reasons, all jewellery, including earrings, must be removed for PE lessons.

Long hair must be tied back to prevent it from becoming caught in equipment or obstructing vision during physical activity.

Jewellery, Hair and Accessories

We want all children to feel comfortable and confident while ensuring that our school remains a safe learning environment.

We kindly ask families to follow these expectations:

Jewellery

Children should not wear jewellery to school, with the exception of small stud earrings measuring 5mm or less in diameter, watches, and jewellery worn for religious or cultural reasons.

Children in Foundation should not wear earrings due to the physical nature of their learning.

All jewellery, including earrings, must be removed for PE lessons.

Hair

Children with shoulder-length hair or longer should have it tied back during the school day where possible.

Hair clips and headbands should be plain and should not distract from learning.

Make-up and Nail Varnish

Make-up and nail varnish should not be worn to school.

Headwear

Headwear worn for religious or cultural reasons is welcomed and should be plain and dark in colour.

Other headwear should not be worn during lessons or inside school buildings.

Pre-Loved School Uniform

Helping Families and Caring for Our Planet

At Oakwood, we believe that every child should have access to suitable school uniform, and we are committed to supporting families while reducing unnecessary waste.

At the end of each half term, unclaimed uniform from lost property that is in good condition will be washed and made available for families to take home.

Families are welcome to take any suitable items they need.

An optional donation can be made, but there is no requirement to contribute.

By reusing school uniform, we can help families save money while making a positive contribution to our environment.

Please contact the school office if you would like further information about the availability of pre-loved uniform.

Please Label Everything!

We know how easily jumpers, cardigans and PE kits can go missing during a busy school day!

To help us reunite lost items with their owners, please ensure that all clothing and personal belongings are clearly labelled with your child's name.

This includes:

  • Jumpers and cardigans

  • Coats

  • PE kits and trainers

  • School shoes

  • Bags and lunchboxes

We also kindly ask that uniform is kept clean and in good condition.

Supporting Every Family

At Oakwood, we recognise that every child and family is unique.

We are committed to ensuring that our uniform expectations are inclusive and that reasonable adjustments can be considered for children with religious, cultural, sensory, physical or other individual needs.

We also understand that purchasing uniform can sometimes be difficult for families.

If you have any concerns about the cost of uniform or your child's individual requirements, please contact the school office or Head of School.

We will work with families sensitively and supportively to find an appropriate solution wherever possible.

Our School Uniform Policy

Our uniform expectations follow the Discovery Multi Academy Trust School Uniform Policy.

The policy provides further information about uniform requirements, affordability, equality, inclusion and the responsibilities of our school community.

School Uniform Policy – Summer 2024

The uploaded policy lists Summer Term 2026 as its renewal date. Please check whether a newer version is available before publishing it on the website.

Proud to Be Oakwood!

Thank you to all our parents and carers for supporting our school uniform expectations.

By working together, we can ensure that every child feels comfortable, confident and proud to be part of our Oakwood family.
